Welfare to Work
The Welfare to Work car loan program provides interest-free car purchase and repair loans to families making the transition from welfare to work, to maintain their employment, and to establish a credit history. You may be eligible to borrow up to $3,000 for the purchase of a used vehicle, or up $700 for repairs and/or car insurance.
Eligibility
Applicants must:- Live in Anoka County.
- Be currently enrolled in the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), or have recently exited MFIP/DWP (up to 6 months) due to over income.
- Have a valid Minnesota driver's license.
- For a car purchase loan applicants must be working at least 30 hours per week for the past 30 days, or be enrolled in a training program that is no more than 6 months long.
- For a car repair loan applicants must be either doing job search activities, working full or part time, or be enrolled in a training program that is no more than 6 months long. The amount of repairs must not exceed the value of the vehicle. The applicant's name must be listed as the owner on the title of the vehcle and must show proof of insurance.
