Welfare-To-Work Transportation Program
If you are in need of a car or you have a car that needs repair; you are on MFIP; AND you live in Anoka County...the Anoka County MFIP Welfare-To-Work Transportation Program could be for you!
Interest-free loans are available for families who are making the transition from welfare to work to maintain their employment and to establish a credit history. You may be eligible to borrow up to $2,300 to purchase a used vehicle, or up to $700 for repairs and/or car insurance.
Eligibility:
- Applicant must be currently enrolled in MFIP (Minnesota Family Investment Program) and live in Anoka County, or off of MFIP due to over income (up to 6 months after exiting MFIP/DWP).
- To be eligible for the car purchase loan, applicants must be working at least 30 hours per week for the past 30 days, or be enrolled in a training program that is 6 months long or less.
- To be eligible for the car repair loan, applicants need to either be doing job search activities, working full or part time, or enrolled in a training program that is 6 months long or less. The amount of repairs must not exceed the value of the vehicle. Up to the first $400* is given to the client as a one time only transportation grant and the remainder is an interest-free loan payable over a period up to 9 months. Applicants name must be listed as owner on the title of the vehicle and must show proof of insurance.*Grants are dependent upon funding availability.
- Applicants must have a valid Minnesota driver's license.
